Iconic Australian hotel group, Meriton Suites, is expanding its empire by adding another two states to their growing list of locations later this year. The company has invested over 400 million in developing three new hotels, extending their luxury offering into Canberra, ACT and Melbourne, VIC.
Located in the heart of the Melbourne and Canberra CBD’s, both new Meriton Suites hotels offer guests fine modern, spacious and comfortable stays, with some of the city’s most iconic landmarks and attractions right on their doorstep.
The last location of the three to launch and another big milestone for the group is Liverpool, NSW. Liverpool is the 16th address for Meriton Suites in NSW alone, cementing it as the largest owner-operator of apartment-style suites in Australia.
Canberra was the first location to launch (designed by Fender Katsalidis, MONA & Australia 108) on August 19, adding another 280 luxury rooms to the Meriton Suites portfolio. Liverpool’s next, with 229 luxury rooms completed and open for guests from September 23. Not far behind is Melbourne, boasting 378 spacious rooms and officially opening its doors on September 26.
Each new property comes with much anticipation, excitement and demand, with Canberra and Melbourne two highly requested destinations by loyal Meriton Suites guests across both corporate and leisure markets. The new hotels are home to one, two and three bedroom suites.

I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Founder & Managing Director Meriton Group Mr Harry Triguboff, to discuss the latest Meriton project and the journey to this point.
Congratulations on the opening of the Meriton Suites in Melbourne! What made you decide to open Meriton Suites in the Melbourne CBD?
Melbourne has been a highly requested destination with our Meriton Suites guests but for me it was important that I found the right location. My hotel business is very successful in Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane. So it made sense that I should also open a hotel in Melbourne.
What inspired you, back in 2003, to open doors to the Meriton Apartments, and what was the vision?
20 years ago I saw that there was a gap in the hotel accommodation market for groups of people and families who wanted to stay together when travelling. Back then everyone was booking small hotel rooms which only accommodated for 2 people. They also lacked comforts that people would have at home, like fully equipped kitchens, laundries and spacious living areas. So I thought why do people have to have different accommodation when travelling to what they are used to at home.
Do you believe tourism and inner-city travel is back to its pre-covid days?
The tourism market is still not at pre covid days because we rely on international arrival volumes, which is still not the same as pre covid. But by opening new hotels in new markets like Melbourne it is a clear demonstration of our confidence in the continued growth of both the domestic and international market. I hope that 2024 will be the start of a real movement where we start seeing international tourists returning the same as before covid.
What make the Meriton Suites different from other Apartment Suites?
There are a number of advantages when staying at Meriton Suites. For example: My apartments feel more like a home than a hotel room. All our suites have lots of room because they feature separate bedrooms and living dining areas and they include a fully equipped kitchen with a stove/oven/microwave and laundries so that you can cook meals or do your laundry. Where is the next destination for Meriton Suites?
I am always watching the market for new locations. There are a few sites available but I wait until the time is right to expand.
As a businessman, having found great success, what would you say is they key to success, particularly in what are interesting times in our economy?
The most important thing in business is to find what you are passionate about and what you enjoy doing. It’s not enough to be just good at something you must be good at and enjoy it and then you will be successful.
