Step inside a world of pure imagination with one of the most beloved stories of all time.
Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the spectacular new musical that is finally landing in Melbourne next week, playing at Her Majesty’s Theatre, following a hugely successful season in Sydney.
Whether you’re stepping back into your childhood, or sharing the experience with the next egenration, there’s no doubt that this will be a delectable and delightful experience for the whole family.
Producers John Frost, Craig Donnell, Warner Bros Theatre Ventures, Langley Park Productions and Neal Street Productions are thrilled to be bringing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Melbourne.
“Sydney audiences have fallen under the spell of this exciting musical production, and we’re sure Melbourne audiences will be enchanted as well,” they said. “The world fell in love with Roald Dahl’s bewitching tale when the book was released, then filmgoers adored the 1971 film with Gene Wilder. Now this fabulous cast is enthralling audiences with the story once again on stage. We can’t wait to search Melbourne for four amazing boys to play Charlie Bucket and join our wonderful cast.”
“This is such a wonderful story for generations to share,” John Frost.
“Parents love sharing their favourite Willy Wonka film from their childhood with the whole family, and grandparents love taking their grandkids. We have an amazing cast to bring this story to life.”
I was delighted to have the chance to speak to Jayme Lee Hanekom who plays Violet Beauregard, and get a little inside glimpse of what audiences can expect from this beautiful production …
This is such a beloved story – how exciting has it been to be part of the stage production?
It’s been so exciting because this show is so incredible. It’s such a fun, energetic and loved show that brings back so many memories of your childhood you can’t help but smile, laugh and sing along to the iconic songs from the movie. It’s so great to able to bring this great story to life on stage.
How different is the production to the film?
I think the creative teams have done such a great job and staying true to both the movies and the book. Yet also bringing some new and exciting story lines, songs and creativity that’s just brilliant. There are so many familiar songs and obvious characters that everyone knows but some really great twists.
What has been your favourite song to perform?
My favourite song to perform is definitely Queen of Pop. It’s such a fun, upbeat, pop song that really lets me live my best life. It’s got groove, incredible music and dancing that makes you want to get up and do as well.
Apart from your own – who is your favourite character?
I would definitely have to say Augustine Gloop because there’s is never a moment when Jake Fehily who plays August Gloop doesn’t make me laugh. He’s such a beloved hilarious character who leaves the stage with you wanting more!!
