In just one week the Daylesford Polo will dazzle attendees at the Mingela Polo Club in Drummond, and it is set to become a highlight of the Melbourne social and philanthropic calendar.
The event will showcase what makes our city great: fine food, delightful drinks, world class fashion and a strong love for sport, with all profits going to help sick children and their families around Australia.
Proudly presented by Bentley Melbourne, the Daylesford Polo is situated on 1,000 acres of picturesque countryside and will include a full range of hospitality options, with fully catered options, premium private marquees, as well as General Admission tickets available for purchase. All ticket options offer fantastic views of the immaculate full-sized polo field.
The owners of Mingela Polo Club, Tolga Kumova and Ben Kay, have generously donated the grounds of their polo pitch to host the first annual Daylesford Polo, with all profits benefiting TLC for Kids and helping to make an enormous difference in the lives of sick children and their families. Following his incredible donation of The Dinner event in 2015, Tolga has been a patron of TLC for Kids for several years. Similarly, Ben has been involved with the charity as an ambassador since 2018.
Alongside the excitement of the Mingela Polo Cup match, there will be music from some of the city’s best DJs, and iconic Polo activities such as the ladies’ and the men’s dash.
“We’re absolutely delighted to be involved in the first ever Daylesford Polo raising money to help sick kids and their families cope with the challenges of everyday life with illness. This is an exciting time for us and we’re looking forward to announcing more details in due course,” says CEO and Founder of TLC for Kids, Tim Conolan.
Guests have the opportunity to mingle and sip drinks in style in a private, fully-catered field side marquee, taking in all that the event has to offer while engaging with premium brands and tasting gourmet food.
The Daylesford Polo is the ideal way to enjoy great food and drink, spectacular fashion, unrivalled countryside and world class sports, while supporting the amazing work of TLC for Kids.
TLC for Kids was established in 1998 when founder Tim Conolan recognised a gap in existing services which saw children suffering from accidents, burns, rare diseases, abuse and mental health issues, missing out on much needed support.
I sat down with CEO of TLC for Kids, Tim Conolan, to talk all things polo and the true meaning behind this event …
1. What can guests expect at this year’s Daylesford Polo?
A day filled with luxury, fashion, music, fine food, entertainment and, of course, Polo. We are thrilled to have some of Australia’s best Polo players joining us this year to help celebrate the Inaugural Daylesford Polo. Guests can also expect to participate in traditional Polo activities, including ‘stomping the divets’, the men’s and women’s dash, Fashions on the Field and, as an added bonus, they will witness a race between a Bentley and one the Polo ponies!
2. It’s so wonderful to see the event supporting such an incredible charity – how did the partnership arise?
Thanks to the generosity of Tolga Kumova and Ben Kay, who purchased the Mingela Polo field last year. They are great supporters of TLC for Kids and decided to host the first public Polo match on the field, that is also giving 100% of profits to our cause. To our knowledge, we have not heard of a Polo event where all profits go to charity. They are really setting an amazing example of how prestigious events, such as Polo, can truly support the community.
3. As we know it takes so many people and companies to put an event like this together – who is involved at this year’s event!
We are extremely grateful for so many people and businesses who have shown their support by getting behind this event, including Bentley Melbourne, Bondi Sands, Think Markets, Brunch Affairs, DayGet, Farmers Arms Hotel, GTelecom, Clase Azul, Review, V/Line, and Vittoria Coffee. And many more.
4. What are your hopes for the event?
We hope this helps launch the number one event to attend on the Polo calendar. We also know this reputation will take some time to build, so we are making sure the Daylesford Polo delivers a professional, well run, fun and engaging event for all involved – all whilst helping to raise awareness and critically needed funds for TLC for Kids. It’s a win win win in our eyes. Not only is this going to be an amazing event, but it is also encouraging people to visit a beautiful part of Victoria. And what better way to enjoy a fantastic day out with friends than to enjoy everything great about Polo.
