Skincare has always been really important to me, I love discovering new products, especially as my skin changes.
One element that I absolutely love is natural ingredients, which is why I was so excited to discover BayeCo. After using the products for the a couple of weeks I defintetly noticed the difference. The use of green tea and gotu kola really agreed with my skin and I couldn’t wait to find out the story behind the brand.
How did the idea of BayeCo come about?
I’ve always been interested in skincare. I like to take care of my skin. When I was younger, as a uni student, I use to try as many of the department store skincare. But I was always a little disappointed with the price I’d pay for them and the effectiveness of it. After working as a pharmacist and in pharmaceutical, it made sense why some worked better than others.
I’m always looking at the ingredient list to see what sort of actives and chemicals skincare consists.
I found it really hard to find natural skincare that contained proven active ingredients. I didn’t want harmful chemicals but then found that these skincare also didn’t contain many active ingredients that have been proven in clinical research.
So I decided to formulate one together with a formulations chemist. I look for proven ingredients that are safe and effective and add them to the skincare.
Have you always had a passion for skincare?
I love a good skincare. I would spend alot on skincare over expensive clothes. Perhaps it’s because my mum takes care of herself well. Clothes lasts for a season but your skin is there with you for the rest of your life!
How did you come up with the name?
Bayeco – Eco means a natural environment. Bay is when you have a body of water that’s set apart but yet connected to the rest of the ocean.
Our brand is just that. We focus on natural skincare and remove harmful chemicals just like many natural skincare so we’re very much connected to it all. At the same time, we’re also set apart because we look for proven active ingredients based on research and include those into our skincare.
We’re unique in that we’re a pharmacist formulated natural skincare.
We want people to look beautiful on the outside knowing that there are ingredients helping their skin remain youthful and at the same time confident on the inside knowing that it doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals.
It’s clear that natural ingredients are an important factor – what are the ingredients in the products and why are they important for the skin?
We have 2 key ingredients, green tea and kakadu plum. Green tea is a well researched ingredient that has been shown to be beneficial for your skin. It’s high in Vitamin C, Vitamin E and an antioxidant called polyphenol to protect the skin. We also have kakadu plum because kakadu plum is rich in Vitamin C.
The ingredients in our skincare has been shown to improve skin radiance in as little as 14 days.
There are 3 things to look for to keep the skin looking youthful. You want to protect your skin, hydrate your skin and repair or encourage collagen production. Bayeco is designed with these 3 things in mind. It’s loaded with antioxidants such as green tea and kakadu plum to protect the skin.
We have ingredients such as Genencare (plant based ingredient) to help with hydration so that the skin is plumped. And we have peptides in our range to trick the skin into producing more collagen.
Who is the quintessential BayeCo client?
Our clients range from Uni students all the way up to women in their 30s and 40s. It’s a good idea to start protecting the skin from a young age. We lose hyaluronic acid from the time we’re in our late teens.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our skin to help hydrate the skin.
By the time we’re in our mid 20s, we start to lose 1% of collagen every year. That’s why we see fine lines especially around the eye area from about mid 20s onwards.
What is the secret to success when starting a business?
I think you have to believe in your products. We have been working on the formula for the skincare for years now. I didn’t want to bring out a skincare that wasn’t going to help people. We did so many batches before we were happy with the results when tested on people.
You’ll always hit road blocks along the way. Sometimes I had problems everyday for weeks!
Taking it a step at a time and not giving up has helped through the process.
Building good relationships is also important. At the end of the day, this is what business is. It’s helping people, it’s working with people, it’s trying to understand people. It’s all about relationships.
